Herbal Acne Remedies And Home Acne Cures


Herbal remedies for acne are a great alternative to traditional drug treatments.
Almost everyone has had to deal with acne, either as a teenager or an adult. Acne breakouts can be very embarrassing and can really lower someones self-esteem.

What Causes Acne Breakouts


There are multiple factors that contribute to acne. One is a change in keratin, a protein produced by skin cells. When your body produces too much, it can clump together and block the oil ducts within hair follicles.

You may have also been told by your mother that too much chocolate or soda will cause acne. Although this is a great way to keep kids from eating too much chocolate and drinking too much soda, it has never been proven.

For many people, an over-the-counter face wash or cream is enough, while others may need a prescription from their doctor for something stronger.

Sometimes even a prescription may not work, which is when you may want to consider one of several herbal remedies for acne.

Herbal Remedies For Acne


There are several homemade acne remedies that you may want to give a try. Before you do, I strongly recommend you consult with your doctor to make sure its okay.


Tea Tree Oil: If used externally, this oil will act against the bacteria that is associated with acne.

There have been several studies showing that tea tree oil acts as well as benzoyl peroxide in treating acne and also has fewer side effect.

Before using tea tree oil as a remedy for acne, you'll first want to wash and pat your face dry. Next, apply a 5 to 15 percent dilution of the oil to your problem areas.

You can either dilute your own in jojoba oil, or purchase a diluted version from the store. I recommend purchasing!

Be aware that tea tree oil can cause a rash, so make sure to try a test spot and wait 24 to 48 hours to make sure a rash does not develop.

If everything is okay, you'll want to apply twice a day, morning and night until the problem area improves. Never take internally!


Lavender: The oil from lavender is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and has astringent properties in it. It's always a good idea to have some around the house for skin irritations and minor burns.

To use as an acne remedy, just dot some oil on the problem areas with a cotton swab as needed.
Chamomile: This flowering herb contains the anti-inflammatory oil azulene, named for it's blue color.

To use for a home remedy for acne, make a skin wash by steeping 1 tablespoon of dried flowers in 1 cup of hot water for about 10 minutes.

After it's cooled and you have strained it, apply it to your face with a cotton ball or washcloth.

There are actually several other herbal remedies for acne, but through my extensive research, I've found these to be the most effective.
